The Interamericana Sur
Remains Opened
The Consejo Nacional de
Vialidad (Conavi)
decided to suspend the
complete closure of the
Interamericana Sur that
was to have been from
6am this morning to 5am
Sunday to install a
sewer pipe in the area
known as La Cangreja at
kilometre 36.
The closing suspension
was possible after
Conavi work crews were
able to channel water
that had formed a pond,
however, the draining
caused a section of
slope that was to have
held the sewer pipe, to
cave in.
Benjamín Sandino,
director of Conservación
Vial del Conavi,
explained that a
different type of work
has to now be carried
out and engineers have
to work out the problem
first.
Although passage through
the section of the
highway is possible,
slow downs are expected
as machinery will be
kept near the site to
continue other road
work.
Sandino added that the
problems are the cause
of the tropical storm
"Alma".
Conavi did not say when
the work will be carried
out that will force the
closure of the highway
that connects San José
to the Southern Zone. |
