Rain, Rain and Even More
Rain Forecast For San
José
For the second morning
in a row, San José woke
up to rain. And
according to the
Instituto Meteorológico
Nacional (IMN) -
national weather service
- more than half of all
of May's rain has fallen
in the three days
between Friday and
Sunday.
According to the IMN,
during the three days
137 millimetres of rain
fell on San José, more
than half of the average
rain fall of 225.9
millimetres registered
for the month over that
nine years.
"Let's day that the
rainy season have
recovered its
territory", said Juan
Diego Naranjo of the IMN.
Naranjo's comments are
based on the fact that
little rain fell on San
José in the first half
of May when the rainy
season was to have been
in full effect.
The IMN is predicting
that the rains of the
past few days will
continue as a new
tropical wave crosses
the country and intense
rains are expected.
The IMN is cautioning
those who live close to
rivers and in areas
prone to flooding to be
vigilant of the rise in
water levels and
mudslides.
So far this season the
rains have claimed one
life, that of 58 year
old Rafael González
Madriz, who died Monday
afternoon while trying
to cross on his horse
the Guacimal river in
Puntarenas.
