Gasoline Stations Now With Indemnity Insurance
The Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) and the Asociación Costarricense de Expendedores de Combustible (ACEC) yesterday signed an insurance policy that will cover personnel and clients of a gasoline station in the event of an accident.

The policy, called the Póliza de Responsabilidad Civil y Seguro de Daño Físico Directo.

The Póliza de Responsabilidad Civil insures the gasoline station up to ¢100 million colones for damages to third parties in the event of an accident where the station was culpable or negligent in causing the accident, while the Póliza de Daño Físico Directo, covers damages caused by fire, lightning, earthquake, volcanic eruption, flooding and vehicle collision, among many of the items.

The policy covers all 206 gasoline stations associated with the ACEC. Gasoline stations not affiliated with the ACEC can also purchase the insurance policy on an individual basis.

The president of the INS, Guillermo Constenla, said that the INS will make the policy available to any owner of a gasoline station, however, the rate negotiated collectively by the ACEC stations is much better than that available to the independent station owners.

Bernard Rodríguez, president of the ACEC, said the policy is an added value to the more than 1 million customers of gasoline stations each month.

The cost of the policy is ¢148.200 colones annually.
