CONNAROZ Will Not Buy Enough Rice

CONNAROZ Will Not Buy Enough Rice
In the battle to get the government to set a fair price of rice, the rice producer association CONNAROZ has decided not to buy the 162.000 tonnes of rice as announced earlier this month, but in effect will only buy 32.000 tons.

According to Oscar Campos of CONNAROZ, producers decided to buy the lower amount due to price speculation on international markets.

The rice producers are adamant that until the government publishes the executive order and does not set a price that is beneficial to them, they will not more forward to make rice purchases required to make up the shortfall by local producers.

The 32.000 ton purchase is expected to arrive in July when the price of rice will go up ˘100 for a 2Kg bag at the supermarket.
