San José Buys New
Garbage Trucks To
Resolve Collection
Problems
The Municipalidad de San
José is moving forward
to resolve its garbage
collection problems and
at the same time same
money buy ending its
practice of leasing
garbage collector
trucks, as it takes
delivery of the first
three brand new trucks
by the end of this
month.
Seven more trucks are
expected by the end of
July.
The move will save the
Municipalidad ¢30
million colones a month,
the cost of the lease
for the old collector
trucks, which in most
cases are in bad
mechanical conditions,
leading to regular
missed garbage pick ups.
Marco Vinicio Corrales,
manager of the Proyectos
de la Municipalidad de
San José, said the
municipality will
continue to lease
equipment, just not in
the amount it is
currently when the new
trucks are all
operating. Corrales
added that municipality
is also looking at
leasing some new
equipment, however, this
time with an option to
purchase at the end of
the lease.
The move by the
municipality received
the green light from the
Contraloría General de
la República
(Comptroller's office)
in a process that will
see the municipality
have a completely modern
garbage collection fleet
by the beginning of
2009.
