Sales To Heat Up
If you haven't gotten
your "pedacito" (piece),
there are only seven
days to go, when the
"Gordo Navideño" lottery
takes places.
The Junta de Protección
Social (JPS) says that
there are still lots of
tickets and good numbers
available. The JPS says
that 123.000 "enteros"
(complete) tickets are
still available for
sale.
Francisco González of
the JPS explained that
the current financial
crisis and the rain has
kept sales lower than
normal, but for the last
week, sales of the
lottery tickets are
expected to heat up.
González added that
people are taking the
advice of saving their "aguinaldo"
instead of spending it
on non-priority items
like the lottery.
However, that may all
change this week, as the
central government
aguinaldo to its 172.000
employees hits the
street this morning. The
central government is
paying out this ¢85
billion colones.
Lottery vendors have
also been complaining of
the slow sales this year
and have become more
aggressive in their
attempt to attract
customers, like taking,
literally, to the
streets in the midst of
traffic at intersections
on the streets of
downtown and the
autopistas like the
General Cañas at the
tool booth and airport
intersection, or
anywhere else there is a
traffic bottleneck.
The lottery draw will
take place Sunday 14
December at 7pm in the
Juan Santamaría park in
Alajuela and will be
broadcast live on
national television.
The lottery will pay out
a grand prize of ¢580
millin colones (3.480
billion colones in six
emissions) for an "entero"
that is made of 40
peices that sells for
¢32.000 colones. A piece
of an entero costs only
¢800.
According to the JPS the
number "30" is the
luckiest number, being
the number that has been
drawn the greatest
number of times since
1960. |
