Annual Teletón Beats Goal
This year's "Teletón", the annual fund raiser for the Hospital Nacional de Niños (Children's Hospital) raised more than us$870.000 dollars, breaking the us$850.000 goal set.

The telethon began on Friday and ended Sunday morning.

The final donation count was not completed at press time, but telethon officials say more than ¢¢477.565.387 colones had been raised.

The even took place in the Palacio de Deportes and included performances by Costa Rica's own,
Maria José Castillo, who was runner up in the Latin American Idol and international artists like Spain's Chenoa, "El Puma" (José Luis Rodríguez) from Venezuela and Mexico's Nikki Clan. Also on stage was Colombia's Ali Castro.

The Asociación de Guias y Scouts (Girl and Boy Scouts) were the last to make a donation to the telethon, with their ¢104 million colones raised during the year.

The money raised is earmarked for equipment for the hospital's burn unit.
