Padre Minor Could Be
Free In Three Months
Without a doubt, Padre
Minor, the Catholic
priest convicted of
fraud, has God on his
side as the Tribunal de
Juicio de Heredia
reduced his fifteen year
sentence to eight years
and could be out in only
three months.
According to priest's
lawyer, Rodrigo Araya,
his client has more than
half his sentence and
could be free on parole
in the coming months.
For the second time,
Padre Minor and
businessman, Omar
Chaves, listened to the
reading of their
sentence for fraud after
the Sala III had granted
an appeal to review the
sentence.
The fiscal Miguel
Ramírez asked the court
to re-sentence the two
men to 13 years and four
months each, while
Minor's lawyer asked for
a lower sentence, noting
that his client has
already served four
years and nine months
behind bars, while
Chaves' lawyer asked fro
six months.
Originally, Minor has
been sentenced to 15
years while Chaves to
12.
During the reading of
the sentence, Minor was
seen with his eyes
closed as if asking God
for justice. And his
prayers were answered
when the judge read out
eight years and six
months.
