with CEMEX
CARACAS - Venezuela
resumed talks with
Cementos Mexicanos
(CEMEX) to run the
national cement industry
as majority share
holder.
Vice President Ramon
Carrizalez mentioned
efforts to secure fast,
amicable accords but the
Expropriation Decree on
CEMEX Venezuela is in
force and operations
remain state-run.
The government held
successful talks with
Holcim and Lagarge
cement companies but
failed with CEMEX when
it soared prices at $1.3
billion and Venezuelan
rates round $400
million.
Carrizalez said final
price to Holcim and
Lafarge will be set
within the next 60 days
with the state to own 85
per cent and 89 per cent
of shares at each.
Venezuela officially
released in June a
Decree with strength of
law giving the state the
right to own no less
than 60 percent of
shares at the cement
