Chavez: ALBA is Bolivar,
Morazan´s Project
TEGUCIGALPA -
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez arrived here
today for the summit
meeting of the
Bolivarian Alternative
for the Peoples of our
America (ALBA in
Spanish) and said this
is the continuation of a
Simon Bolivar and
Francisco Morazan
project.
Chavez arrived at the
Air Base Hernan Acosta
Mejia, near the
International Airport of
Toncontin where he was
received by the Foreign
Minister, Eduardo
Orellana Mercado.
Consulted by reporters,
the Venezuelan president
referred to the media
campaign developed here
against the entrance of
Honduras to this
integration scheme and
described it as a futile
attempt of the United
States to halt this
process.
“There is a Revolution
in Latin America, there
is a process of changes
going on and the courage
of president Manuel
Zelaya has no
precedence, facing
internal opposition and
foreign pressures”, he
said.
He added the ALBA is a
project formed by
progressive governments
looking for a different
path of social justice
for the poorest sectors.
“We are activating
mechanisms to protect
our peoples from the
great crises of
capitalism”, affirmed
Chavez before heading to
the government
headquarters to
participate in the
acceptance of Honduras
ceremony.
There, before 50
thousand persons,
president Manuel Zelaya
will sign the document
formalizing the entrance
of this Central American
country to this project
born as an alternative
to the free trade
agreements imposed by
the United States.
Nicaraguan president
Daniel Ortega arrived in
Honduras to take part in
the summit meeting to
officialize Hondura´s
entry to ALBA.
Nicaragua was the first
Central American nation
in entering the
integrationist scheme
founded by Cuba and
Venezuela in Havana in
2004. After that,
Bolivia, Dominica and
now Honduras, became
members, for a total of
six countries.
According to the
program, the Executives
will meet in the
Government House with
their host Manuel Zelaya
and then go to a square
in front of the
Executive headquarters
where the ceremony will
take place.
Since this morning,
thousands of persons
began to gather in that
place, already renamed
as Dignity Plaza. After
the signing ceremony,
there will be a press
conference to give
details of the accord.
Gathered in Honduras are
the presidents of
Venezuela, Hugo Chavez,
Bolivia, Evo Morales and
Vice president of Cuba,
Carlos Lage as well as a
delegation of the
Dominican Republic,
interested in knowing
the social benefits of
this initiative. |
