 Panama Names Complex After 1st Olympic Gold Winner
 PANAMA CITY  -A new sports complex will be named for Panama's first Olympic gold medalist, Irving Saladino.

The news was announced by President Martin Torrijos on Tuesday.

World champion Saladino ended Panama's 60-year Olympic medal drought with his victory in the men's long jump on Monday, and Torrijos called him "an example of success and perseverance for all Panamanians.''

Saladino's gold was Panama's first Olympic medal since Lloyd LaBeach won bronzes in the 100 and 200 meters at the 1948 London Games.

The new sports complex will be completed in 2009. It will include a football stadium, gymnasium and a hall of fame.
