MANAGUA - Venezuelan
Specialists and medical
staff boost the goals of
Operation Miracle today
while treating eye
complains in the most
remote places in
Nicaragua.
A medical brigade has
reached Somoto, at
scarcely 12 miles from
Honduran border, and
Madriz department,
northwestern Nicaragua,
to make the selection of
Nicaraguans that will
travel to Venezuela to
receive the eye surgery
or treatment for their
eye complains.
According to the
Venezuelan ambassador
Sergio Rodriguez, thanks
to this solidarity
effort in which Cuba
also take part, over 17
planes have flown to
Caracas with nearly
3,300 patients who have
received attention in
specialized clinics.
The demand is very big
there, dozens of people
get together at the
office of Sandinist
mayor Marcio Ariel Rivas
to receive attention of
the doctors who will
finally decide whether
they will be operated or
not.
Some of them are sent to
Sandino's city where the
Cuban doctors have
already done nearly
30,000 surgeries in less
than one year.
According to Rivas'
mayor there is no
political distinction ,
a Sandinist supporter
receive the same
attention than a
liberal, this is no more
but humanity, it is
something for the people
and along with the
scholarships project are
completely
humanitarians, said the
