Costa Ricans to Protest
US Trade Deal
Several sectors of Costa
Rican society against
the Tratado de Libre
Comericio (TLC) - trade
deal with the United
States - will take to
the streets on Sunday
September 30 to protest,
announced the Movimiento
Patriotico.
The organization called
for a protest march
against the trade
agreement before the
referendum October 7.
Literally polarizing the
country since its first
negotiations in 2003,
currently the balance
tends to favor the NO,
although many surveys
talk of a technical tie
in voting intentions.
There are fears that the
will of the Costa Ricans
may be hijacked through
an election fraud and
other maneuvers.
Charges have been made
denouncing excessive
printing of ballots and
presence of Intelligence
officials and Security
Direction in activities
related to the custody
of the election material
although that is, in
fact, forbidden. |
