Costa Rica Beats Honduras On Penalty Kicks
Victor Nunez's penalty kick turned out to be the winner as Costa Rica beat Honduras Sunday in a FIFA-sanctioned exhibition at Rentschler Field.

The game went to penalty kicks after the teams battled to a scoreless tie. Honduras' Carlo Costly followed Nunez, but his shot hit the crossbar. Costa Rica won the penalty kick shootout, 3-2.

While the Costa Rican team's celebration was rather subdued, its fans went into pandemonium. "These are always the hardest games against Honduras," Costa Rica's Gonzalo Segares said. "Both teams don't like each other and the fans don't like each other. There is a rivalry there."

Costa Rica had a goal nullified by an offside call near the end of the first half, when it apparently scored on a header off a direct kick from 20 yards out.

In the second half, Costa Rica's Ronald Gomez hit the crossbar at 54 minutes, and Honduras' Rambo DeLeon hit the crossbar at 63 minutes.

The crowd was small, filling less than half the 40,000 seats.
