Drums Beat On Avenida
Segunda To Open Teachers
Association Conference
Avenida Segunda
yesterday was filled
with the traditional
parade inaugurating the
official commencement of
the LXIV Congreso de la
Asociación Nacional de
Educadores (ANDE) -
national teachers
association.
Some 60 drum bands from
schools and colleges
beat the drums.
osé Antonio Barquero,
president of ANDE,
explained that although
the conference does not
start until Wednesdays,
the drum bands
officially opened the
conference that will be
held at the Palacio de
Deports in Heredia and
will continue until
Saturday.
The conference will be
bring together educators
from all over the
country and will be
discussion different
subjects on education
that will then be sent
to the Ministerio de
Educación Pública (MEP),
according to MEP
minister, Leonardo
Garnier.
"There are important
subjects to be discussed
that include education,
conflicts and violence
in the schools", said
Barquero.
And without saying a
discussion on the
Tratado de Libre
Comercio - free trade
agreement with the
United States - will
also be a topic of
discussion.
