PARLATINO Warns of
Biofuel Risks
The risk of food
shortage to produce
biofuels from food is
among key issues to be
analyzed Friday by the
Latin American
Parliament (Parlatino)
members met in this
capital.
About 80 deputies from
13 countries are
attending in this
capital the eighth
meeting of the Parlatino
commission for
political, municipal,
integration, gender
equity, childhood,
youth, agriculture,
cattle breeding and
fishing affairs, to be
concluded today.
The impact for the use
of lands, waters and
grains to feed cars,
while millions of people
suffer from hungry in
the region was debated
in the opening ceremony
of this event.
Instead of producing
biofuels, Latin American
countries must use the
largest quantity of corn
to feed million Latin
Americans living in
abject poverty, Deputy
Maria de los Angeles
Moreno stated.
The Parlatino's
Commission secretary
called Latin American
governors to produce
more food to avoid that
children suffer from
hungry and die due to
lack of meal.
The gathering was opened
by Panamanian National
Assembly president Pedro
Miguel Gonzalez, who
emphasized the need to
adopt policies to reduce
the brutal inequality in
the distribution of
income in Latin America. |
