Hague to Decide
Honduras-Nicaragua Sea
Border
Hondurans were
optimistic on Friday
about the verdict
expected Monday from the
The Hague International
Court of Justice about
the border conflict with
Nicaragua.
Honduran diplomats said
the definition of the
maritime limits of these
countries in the
Caribbean will resolve a
more than century-old
conflict, and will lead
to peace and integration
of the plaintiff
nations.
Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya said on
Wednesday that the
decision will unite both
countries as Central
American brothers,
committed to comply with
the judicial decision.
Nicaraguan President
Daniel Ortega also said
on Wednesday, during the
First Meeting of
Regional Courts of
Justice in Managua, that
he will respect The
Hague's decision, and
expects that some day
the borders between
countries will be
erased.
Both nations presented a
demand to the ICJ on
December 8, 1999 to
determine their maritime
limits in the Caribbean.
Honduras holds that its
limits reach parallel
15, while Nicaragua
claims its domain to
