Things To Consider For
Tomorrow's Vote
All is set for
tomorrow's TLC vote, as
all Costa Ricans have
the obligation and duty
to vote, for or against
the Tratado de Libre
Comercio (TLC) - free
trade agreement with the
United States.
For those who will be
going out to vote, here
are some
recommendations:
1. There is the great
possibility of heavy
rain during the weekend,
according to the
Instituto Metereológico
Nacional (IMN) - the
weatherman - so it is
best to get out and vote
in the early part of the
day.
2. The voting boots are
open from 6:00am to
6:00pm.
3. There is no "ley seca"
- law prohibiting the
sale of liquor- for this
vote as it is the norm
during elections.
4. For those not sure
where they are to vote,
the information is
available at the TSE
website:
www.tse.go.cr.
5. Voters only need to
present their "cedula"
to vote. No other
document or
identification is
required or will be
accepted.
6. Only Costa Ricans
whose name is on the
voters list can vote in
the referendum.
7. For the referendum to
take effect at least 40%
of the eligible voters
must vote, failing which
the voting process is
null and void.
8. Public transportation
to and from voting
booths is free. To get a
free pass, voters have
to visit the TSE main
offices in San José or
any of the 32 branches
around the country.
9. Voters will only have
two minutes to cast
their vote.
10. No matter the voting
results, life in Costa
Rica goes back to normal
on Monday.
