Panama burns over 3,000 kg of illicit drugs
Panamanian officials burned over 3,000 kg of
drugs police seized in the country in the past
two months, the Judicial Technical Police (PTJ)
reported on Friday.
According to the PTJ report, 3,064 kg of illicit
drugs were incinerated at the Cerro Patacon
municipal trash dump 80 km from this capital's
downtown area.
"Of this amount, 2,751 kg were cocaine, 302 kg
marihuana and the rest was heroine," said police
officers.
The PTJ said that over the past 10 years Panama
has become a center of operations for Colombian
and Mexican drug trafficking organizations who
transport drugs from South America to the United
States and Europe.
Among the most important hauls in the past two
months were 525 cocaine packages seized in the
capital's El Bosque neighborhood as well as the
985 cocaine packages seized near Coiba island in
Panama's Pacific coast.
