Panama Canal Profits Increasing
Panama Canal earned 675.9 million dollars in
2006, 39.6 percent higher than 2005, sources of
the sector reported.
The company earned 1.494 million dollars in
2006, according to a National Assembly report,
said administrator of the Panama Canal Authority
(ACP), Alberto Aleman.
According to that text, 1.026 billion dollars
correspond to the collection of tolls, 310
million are related to traffic, 74 million to
energy sales and 19 million are related to
drinking water sales.
In that period, the ACP spent 63.1 million
dollars on the purchase of fuel, almost 24
million more than the previous year, due to the
rice in the oil prices.
The report highlights 360.5 million dollars net
contributions, from which 76.9 millions were
assigned to investment programs and 23.4 to the
corporate reserve for contingencies.
Another 182 millions will be used in the
capitalization of the company and 120 million on
the sea route extension.
