Venezuela Debunks Food Shortage
Venezuela confirmed the official
war on large estates and refuted
efforts to scare the people with
a fake agriculture crisis when
there is rather sustained
growth.
Agriculture and Land Minister
Elias Jaua said the government
will not backstep on its
commitment to getting people
food at fair prices nor its war
on large estates and hoarding to
cause price hikes.
The minister recalled the fault
of the agricultural tragedy of
the 1990s under neoliberalism
and refuted rumors on an alleged
food shortage and production
slump.
Rather, agriculture reports show
sustained growth. Corn, for
instance, jumped from 15 million
tons in 1998 to 22 million this
year.
"Large estate owners know that
we will not renounce this war
against them and against
hoarding and speculation to give
the people quality products at
affordable prices," added the
minister.
