Bolivia Nationalizes, Italy
Respects
The Italian government assured
Bolivia that it will respect the
results of the nationalization
process of the National
Telecommunications Company (ENTEL),
a branch of Telecom, affirmed
the minister of the presidency,
Ramon Quintana.
Regardless of the solution
arrived at with ENTEL, Italy
ratified its commitment to
maintain cooperation and solid
relations, Quintana said this
weekend in a press conference.
Grupo Entel S.A., belongs
toTelecom Italia, which has a
presence in various Latin
American countries.
The official who heads a
negotiation commission created
by the executive, returned after
contacts in Rome with the
Italian government and in
Belgium with the European Union,
on the subject of nationalizing
the telephone company.
He explained that the government
commission has delivered a
detailed report on the process
of nationalizing ENTEL as well
as documents on the
capitalization of the company in
1995 when it was purchased by
the entity of Italian origin.
On April 2, President Evo
Morales designated a government
commission to negotiate with the
Italian Telecom, the largest
telephone company in the
country, for a friendly recovery
that should have concluded in a
month's time.
Since then talks were hampered
by accusations on both parts of
a lack of cooperation in the
process.
