Venezuelan Government Moves
Toward Constitutional Reform
Venezuelan Information Minister
William Lara confirmed that the
government is making progress in
elaborating a constitutional
reform, which will be announced
for the people to discuss it.
Lara told a television station
during the weekend the
initiative is important and also
is the need to turn it into the
subject of a study and a
people´s comprehensive debate.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
also referred to elaboration of
a constitutional reform bill,
although there is no rush, and
it could be ready in 208.
The president explained that the
possible articles elaborated by
the presidential committee in
charge of the constitutional
reform issue are already being
discussed.
The information minister said
the number of those listed in
the Venezuelan United Socialist
Party (PSUV) member register was
high, within a process started
on Sunday the previous week in
the Lara state, and will
continue during the four coming
weekends.
Lara said there is a proposal
for the new organization to be
called United Socialist Party of
the Bolivarian Revolution.
The minister highlighted the
high politicization reached by
the population, and its
determination to move towards a
solid political structure that
guarantees progress of the
Venezuelan revolutionary
process.
The PSUV will guarantee
durability of a democratic
change in this country that does
not depend on a generation, but
will continue in time, he said.
