Guatemalan Election
Some candidates to the
Guatemalan Presidency in
the September 2007
elections violate ethics
when they confront
against each other,
electoral observers
denounced here Tuesday.
At the last public
activities by aspirants
from the Patriota Party,
the Great National
Alliance and Unidad
Nacional de la Esperanza
used strong language
against each other.
Guatemalan civil
organization Mirador
Electoral member Jose
Davila said verbal
aggressions started two
months ago, after the
political groups signed
an agreement for the
electoral campaign, with
mutual respect and the
green light for
dialogue.
Miguel Gonzalez, from
the Association for
Development,
Organization, Services
and Socio-Cultural
Studies, asked the
candidates to
concentrate on
presenting positive
government proposals and
leave aggressions aside.
Observers assured the
behavior of candidates
could heat up the
electoral environment,
incite violence and
discourage many citizens
