Nicaragua May Strip
Bolaños Immunity
The judge in charge of
investigating an
accusation of immigrant
trafficking against
former Migration
Director Fausto
Carcabelos requested
Tuesday the removal of
parliamentary immunity
for former President
Enrique Bolaños to be
able judge him for
covering up.
The request was
presented Tuesday by the
judge of the district
Seventh Audience Court
Abelardo Alvir, before
the first Secretary of
the National Assembly
(parliament), reported
local radio.
On October 2006, the
National Police decided
that at least 159 people
coming from countries
with restricted access
to the country had
entered Nicaragua
without the required
visa demanded for those
cases.
Experts determined the
signature of the
Migration Director had
not been counterfeited,
as the official declared
at that moment.
Cacabelos is also
involved in the case of
six Chinese citizens
detained by Honduran
authorities, in an
attempt to enter the
neighbor country, coming
from Nicaragua with no
entry visa to that
country.
In order to strip him of
the immunity, conferred
by his condition as
deputy to National
Assembly, 56 of 92
deputies signatures are
