Hands Over Andean Community Presidency
The
Bolivian government hands over temporary
presidency of the Andean Community of Nations
(CAN) to Colombia on Thursday, during the
closing ceremony of the 17th CAN Summit.
Bolivian President Evo Morales is presenting a
report of his country s leadership of the bloc
in 2006.
Sources of the Colombian delegation said they
will work to improve the free trade zone of
goods and services and consolidation of
relations with third countries.
Before the ceremony, the dignitaries of Bolivia,
Ecuador, Peru and Colombia are to sign the
Tarija Declaration, a document urging more
integration, as reported in the foreign
ministerial sessions.
Chief of Bolivian diplomacy, David Choquehuanca,
told Prensa Latina that the document will
include important cooperation agreements like
the struggle against corruption.
There will also be an official announcement of
the beginning of negotiations for a new
association with the European Union.
