Defends Resources before CAN
The
Bolivian government highlighted on Monday the
need to defend natural resources, one of the
core issues of the 17th Summit of the Andean
Community of Nations (CAN), to be held in this
city from June 13-14.
According to the Republic s Vice president
Alvaro Garcia the strategy to be shown in that
forum includes State actions to recover sectors
like energy and telecommunications.
Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia s sovereign
decision about their most important sectors and
the ways to market them will be two of the core
subjects of the forum, he said.
Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca
said an integral CAN should encourage social
projects and be less focused on trade.
In this reference, he highlighted agreements in
environmental defense, social development,
customs, trade, statistics control, and others.
Collaboration in health, education, migration,
and labor rights is also important, he said.
Choquehuanca announced that the forum s agenda
includes meetings of Foreign Trade and Foreign
Affairs ministers, and a meeting of dignitaries.
