Central
American Representatives Challenge Metal Mines
El
Salvador is expected to receive Monday delegates
attending the "Week of Regional Action against
Metallic Mining," from different Latin American
non-governmental organizations.
Coordinated by the Central American Alliance
against Metallic Mining, the campaign of
reflection will be run from today to June 18,
organizers confirmed.
"This is the first time we meet to reject that
pollutant industry,"
stated David Pereira, from the National Board
against dangers of mining.
According to Mauricio Sermeno, executive
coordinator of the environmental organization
Salvadorean Ecological Unity, metallic mining
provokes irreversible damages to water-bearing
stratums and poisons rivers.
