Nicaragua Deflates US Terror Report
The
Nicaraguan Foreign Affairs Ministry rejected a
US government report about terrorism,
considering the text contains disinformation,
sources reported on Monday in this capital.
"About the report on Nicaragua, the Foreign
Ministry said it contains and spreads untrue
information," says the information sent to the
US embassy in Managua during the weekend.
The text published on Monday on the local
foreign ministry web site, refers to the Country
Reports on Terrorism 2006, elaborated by the US
State Department and announced on April 30.
According to the Nicaraguan government, the
local armed forces have never admitted that the
portable land-to-air rockets in their possession
could reach terrorists hands, as the US reports
says.
"On the contrary, the Nicaraguan government
ratifies and announces that its portable
anti-aircraft complexes are kept under strict
security parameters," the foreign ministry
asserted.
Destruction of the SAM-7 missiles, made in
Russia, is an old wish of Washington, but the
proposal has been rejected by the current
Sandinista government, which opposes its Army s
unilateral disarmament.
It also recalls that the National Assembly is
working on several bills against terrorism, and
Nicaragua is a member of the UN Convention and
other international legal instruments against
that scourge.
