Guatemala Opens International Industrial Fair
Guatemalan
President Oscar Berger, inaugurated the
International Industry Fair NDUEXPO 2007
Wednesday, which he regarded as an opportunity
to attract investments and to create future
employments for the population.
Berger explained the efforts to achieve
commercial relationships with the biggest number
possible of countries, to reveal the procedures
of the public institutions and to adjust the
laws in order to give bigger artificial
certainty to the managers.
According to the Economic Commission of the UN
for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC),
Guatemala received in 2006 a total of 325
million dollars in direct foreign investment,
superior to the two previous years, but very far
from the stocking in the region.
In Central America, Panama and Costa Rica,
countries that have not signed Treaties of Free
Trade with United States, lead the reception of
strange capitals with 2.56 billion and 1.436
billion dollars, respectively.
One of the objectives of INDUEXPO 2007 is to
improve the image of Guatemala to make it
attractive to the eyes of the international
managers, the organizers of the event assured.
Some 175 national signatures and 78 foreigners
participate in the sample, with a total of 400
pavilions, where pharmaceutical products, foods
and drinks are exposed, machinery for the
construction, footwear and metal industry.
There are delegations of several countries such
as Mexico, Cuba, Spain, India, Puerto Rico,
Dominican Republic, Venezuela and several
Central American nations.
