Cuban press highlights meeting between Castro, Vietnamese leader
Sunday's Cuban press had extensive coverage of a meeting between their leader Fidel Castro and Nong Duc Manh, the secretary general of Vietnam's Communist Party Central Committee, which took place in Havana on Saturday night.

Five pictures illustrate the stories carried by Juventud Rebelde's website where Manh said he had felt very excited and pleased to meet the Cuban leader, who is recovering from a gastric illness.

Castro is smiling in the pictures, dressed in a tracksuit and greeting his visitor with a hug.

The most senior Vietnamese Communist Party leader highlighted what he called Castro's "profound words" regarding bilateral links and Cuba's energy revolution.

He said that he had listened to Castro "with a great deal of attention and he was really convinced" about the latter topic.

Manh also said he was pleased to see Castro's recovery, and that he had passed on a "greeting expressing his people's solidarity and affection."

The Castro-Manh meeting was first shown on Saturday night on Cuban television, which broadcast images of the meeting and published an official statement describing the meeting as "emotional, intense and brotherly".

The leaders met for two hours, discussing matters of mutual interest focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean, a region which Manh has visited in recent days.

"It was a meeting which ratified the close links between our sibling nations," the statement concluded.

Manh's visit, which began on Friday, ended on Sunday. It was his last stop on a Latin American tour that also visited Chile, Brazil and Venezuela.
