Plenty of Rooms In
Hotels During Low Season
If you are still
considering plans to
take advantage of the
mid year school break
and head to the beaches,
hotels and resorts at
popular destinations
still have lots of room,
reporting only a 60%
occupancy rate.
A bed check by the
Cámara Nacional de
Turismo (Canatur) -
national tourism chamber
- reports that only 6
out of every 10 beds are
occupied.
The Canatur report
includes 50 affiliated
companies in the areas
of San José, Puntarenas,
Heredia, San Carlos,
Limón, Guanacaster and
the Zona Sur (southern
zone).
Gonzalo Vargas,
president of Canatur,
said that that
reservations for the
coming week are strong
and the occupancy rate
could reach 60% by the
weekend.
The average hotel room
cost included in the
report is us$101 per
night, some including
breakfast and tours, and
could be lower in some
areas, said Vargas.
This time of year is
traditional for hotel
owners to offer
attractive packages to
lure national tourists
during the "low" season.
