Guatemalan Party to
Boost Reform
The PP (Patriotic Party
of Guatemala) plans to
promote constitutional
reforms after the
inauguration of
President elect Alvaro
Colom in January 14, a
representative of that
party announced.
PP Secretary General
Otto Perez Molina told a
local radio station the
initiative is mainly
aimed at people's
election of governors.
The changes are oriented
to implement articles
that lead to fulfil
peace accords signed by
the government and the
guerrillas in 1996, and
to revise regulations
regarding State
officials' immunity,
said the former
presidential candidate.
The current Constitution
of May 31, 1985, was
reformed in 1993 and in
1994, a year when 43
articles were modified. |
