Honduran President
Manuel Zelaya will
decide the minimum wage
to be in effect in
January, after
negotiations between
entrepreneurs and union
leaders broke down
Wednesday,
In this month's
meetings, business
people and trade union
leaders could not reach
consensus for the salary
raise in 2008.
Union leaders are
requesting 35 percent,
giving the high cost of
living, and rejecting a
proposal of between 8
and 9 percent.
Union leader Jose Luis
Vaquedano said the cost
of basic food products
grew 16 percent, and
inflation reached 9
percent.
Honduran Labor Minister
Rixi Moncada said that,
according to Honduran
legislation, it now
corresponds to the
president to fix the
salary increase by
