One Million Tourists
Expected Between
December and April, ICT
Officials Estimate
The Instituto
Costarricense de Turismo
(ICT) has estimated than
some 190.000 foreigners
have come to Costa Rica
to spend Christmas,
headed for the beaches,
jungles and other points
of interest in the
country.
That number is in
addition to the
thousands of Costa
Ricans who are also off
work this week, taking
advantage of the holiday
season break from work.
All central government
employees and state
agencies are off until
the first days of
January. As well, many
businesses shut down
completely for the week,
giving their employees
the time off as well.
The ICT reports that
Pacific North (Guanacaste),
and the Cental Pacific
towns of Quepos/Manuel
Antonio and Jacó all
report a high
concentration of
vacationers. In some
places there are no
hotel rooms available.
Other points of interest
are the mountains, rain
forest and volcanoes.
San Carlos, which
includes La Fortuna and
Arenal are popular
destinations for many.
The ICT estimates that 1
million visitors will
make their way to Costa
Rica during the "high"
season - December 2007
to April 2008 - or more
than half of all the
visitors expected during
an entire year. |
