Family Waiting on Return
of Body To Nicaragua
In Chinadega, Nicaragua,
some 170 kilometres from
the capital city of
Managua, the Díaz
centeno family wait the
return of the body of
one of their own, Martha
Johanna Díaz Centeno,
whose body was found
naked and faced down in
a field in the area
known as Monte del
Aguacate, near Atenas.
Johanna as she was known
to friends in Costa
Rica, including all of
us here at
Insidecostarica.com, had
been working and living
in Costa Rica for some
12 years.
She recently moved from
Heredia to work on the
Pacific coastal town of
Jacó where she was last
seen in a local bar in
the company of
strangers.
Johanna's body was found
by a local man, Eladio
Hidalgo, who sold fruit
on the side of the
highway. Hidalgo told
investigators that he
did work on Monday due
to the intense rain,
discovering the body in
the early hours of
Tuesday morning.
The body's state of
decomposition made
identification by
authorities difficult.
Authorities believe that
the Johanna was killed
elsewhere and then
dumped in an area where
the body would be hard
to find and succumb to
the elements.
While the family waits
the return of the body,
the medical forensic lab
is looking for the cause
of the death.
There were no apparent
wounds or marks on the
body. Authorities
suspect murder, possibly
someone she met at the
bar where she was last
seen. Authorities said
that jewelry found on
the body were the key to
identification, but
would not speculate
further on the cause of
death or how Johanna
ended up where she was
found.
Johanna is survived by a
nine year old daughter,
Melanie. |
