Argentina issues arrest
warrant for Venezuelan
accused of importing
cash
Argentine prosecutor
Maria Luz Rivas Diez
issued an international
arrest warrant Tuesday
for Venezuelan Guido
Antonini Wilson, who
tried to bring
us$800,000 dollars into
the country.
The prosecutor said that
she may also seek the
arrest of another
Venezuelan, Claudio
Uberti, a former state
official sacked for his
part in the attempt to
bring the money into
Argentina on Aug. 4.
Both Antonini and Uberti
traveled to Buenos Aires
from Caracas aboard a
jet rented by state
company Enarsa, along
with several Argentine
and Venezuelan
officials.
Rivas said that
Argentine prosecutors
will also find out if
those involved planned
to unload the money in
Bolivian airport Santa
Cruz de la Sierra, where
the plane made an
unscheduled stop.
Alberto Fernandez, the
Argentine cabinet chief
of staff, has demanded
an explanation for these
events from the
Venezuelan government.
Responding to the
demand, Venezuelan
Interior Minister Pedro
Carreno said the
Venezuelan government
does not have to assume
any responsibility for
the event, describing it
as "a penal and
individual matter." |
