Honduran Judges Fear
Insecurity Environment
The Honduran judicial
power debates because of
the climate of
insecurity in the
country continued to
focus public attention
on Tuesday.
Former official of
Honduras Law School,
Doris Imelda Madrid,
declared that the death
of 12 of her colleagues
this year can only be
understood in the
context of the general
violence in the Central
American nation.
The official number is
3,000 homicides a year,
but the real number may
be more, Madrid said.
"The day a lawyer dies,
many more people whose
names are not mentioned
also die," she said, and
blamed the phenomenon on
lack of criminal
policies and impunity.

said she feared a mass
resignation of judges
after the murder of a
judge, when it became
known that another 10
had received death
