Cuba Stays Firm against
Nukes
The president of Cuba's
Movement for Peace and
Sovereignty of the
Peoples, Jose Ramon
Rodriguez, reiterated
Monday that his country
rejects nuclear arms
proliferation.
Rodriguez denounced
current threats against
humankind with new
missiles aiming at
different places just 62
years after the bombings
of Hiroshima and
Nagasaki.
He termed it
unacceptable at this
height of human
development that the
wealthiest countries,
led by the United
States, still squander
multi-million dollars in
funds for wars and to
upgrade the destructive
power of weapons.
The Cuban official said
such "genocides" are
instruments of imperial
blackmail the US uses in
international politics,
and he called to awaken
global awareness.
Peace is international
cooperation, assured
Rodriguez at the
ceremony honoring the
victims of the US
nuclear attacks on
Japanese civilians.
He reminded that Cuba's
policy relies on peace
and solidarity with all
the peoples of the
world, especially in the
poorer countries, where
it develops several
health care and
education projects.
Among them is Operation
Miracle that has
restored sight to over
600,000 people from
several countries, plus
the literacy program Yo
Si Puedo.
Today's ceremony
involved the
announcement in Peace
Alley (Callejon de la
Paz) of the initiative
by the Athens-Japan
Association to bring the
eternal flame that
recalls this holocaust
to the Island in 2008. |
