Venezuelan Government Ready to
Face Opposition
Venezuelan Minister of Interior
and Justice, Pedro Carreño, said
on Tuesday that the government
is anticipating any political
scenario, even violence, as part
of the destabilizing efforts by
the opposition.
Carreno made his remarks from
Barquisimeto (center), where he
made an assessment of security
measures taken for the 5th
Summit of Heads of State and the
2nd Games of the Bolivarian
Alternative for the Americas
(ALBA), including radar systems
to detect and track aircraft.
We have an opposition in
Venezuela that is trying to act
against the government's
sovereign decision of not
renewing the concession to a
private TV channel, he
explained.
In view of their incapacity to
get support from the people, we
must anticipate any scenario,
even violence, he said, after
referring to what he described
as the sad opposition march in
Caracas last Saturday.
To be ready for any contingency
is a responsibility of the State
in its role to guarantee the
people's security, he insisted.
We will protect and guarantee
the lives, properties and
integrity of all participants in
the coming events, the Summit
and the Games, also including
the meetings of Latin American
social movements, said Carreno.
