Honduran Authorities Seize 1.5 Tons Cocaine
The authorities seized the biggest cocaine shipment (1,500 kg) during the first quarter of 2007, Honduran navy commander Jose Eduardo Espinal stated.

The load was found in an airplane that landed in the Caribbean island of Guanaja and it was supposed to end up in the US black market.

The airplane has a Mexican registration and a capacity for 12 passengers, the spokesman said in a press conference.

The police saw seven wheelbarrows, supposedly to unload the drugs and 68,5 litres and five barrels of gasoline.

Espinal said that two crew members escaped after the airplane landed and they saw the presence of the authorities in the Guanaja's runway.

The occupants of the airplane had a boat 20 feet long, with a 15-horsepower motor in which they were supposed to transport the narcotics.

The area is used frequently by traffickers to smuggle drugs into North America and Europe, according to the official.
