Cuba Revamps Hurricane Radar
A radar device to detect
meteorological events located on
San Juan Peak in the Cuban
province of Cienfuegos is being
modernized to increase
significantly its capacity,
Granma newspaper reported
Friday.
A team of experts have installed
there a new magnetron, an
apparatus in charge of measuring
electromagnetic energy.
The San Juan Peak meteorological
station has been introducing
technological improvements for
several years, to detect with
great precision meteorological
phenomena.
The radar apparatus is located
on one of the highest points of
the Guamuhaya mountain range, in
the country's central zone and
in front of the Caribbean Sea,
very important to study
atmospheric events.
This is its best position to
systematically analyze
hurricanes affecting the island
almost every year.
