Venezuela Building Free Health
System
The health system in Venezuela
took steps Friday toward plans
for free domestic medical
assistance with the construction
of 257 doctor´s offices and 108
comprehensive diagnosis and
rehab centers.
So far 1,907 doctor´s offices
have been built under Mission
Barrio Adentro, and the number
of diagnosis and rehabilitation
centers (Barrio Adentro II) has
increased to 472.
In the formal inauguration from
Miraflores Palace (Executive
headquarters), President Hugo
Chavez said the opening of those
facilities stems from the joint
collaboration of Cuban
physicians and health personnel
and their Venezuelan colleagues.
The leader of the Bolivarian
Revolution asserted that 13,000
Venezuelan physicians are
training in the nation and 2,500
are in Cuba to eventually join
the Barrio Adentro program.
Barrio Adentro I has allowed
treating 2,244,747 patients and
making 12.9 million tests.
Mission Barrio Adentro began
with the construction of 13
doctors´ offices in 2003, 300 in
2004, and 5,000 in 2005.
