Guatemala to Open Forensic
Center
The Office of the United Nations
High Commissioner for Human
Rights described the approval of
the law on the Institute of
Forensic Sciences Institute as a
major breakthrough for the
justice system in Guatemala.
The law to open the Institute,
following the approval of the
Republic´s Congress, will allow
improving investigations for
trials.
With the support of the medical,
chemical and pharmaceutical
sciences, the new facility will
engage in identifying people
through DNA analyses,
ballistics, forensic
anthropology, toxicology and
forensic medicine, among other
scientific activities.
It will also provide attorneys
with more convincing evidence in
trials.
