Salvador Confirms Dengue Increase
Salvadoran Public Health Minister Guillermo Maza confirmed Tuesday that 100 more cases of dengue fever were reported last week, and with this the number of infected people reached 500, considered a record for this time of the year in the nation.

Human rights and humanitarian organizations protested the lack of concern shown by the government for the outbreak of the epidemic, because of poor health conditions and the lack of preventive policies to eliminate the transmitter agent.

Reports from different departments assured medical consults for dengue fever went up to 1,175 cases, and an alert was decreed in the San Salvador metropolitan area and in the districts of La Libertad and Sonsonete.

The human rights and humanitarian organizations asked the President Elias Antonio Saca administration to destine financial resources to end the situation.

The health minister called on the population to observe prevention measures and exhorted them to go to health institutions at once if they feel symptoms of the disease.
