More Women Murdered in El
Salvador
There is an increasing number of
murders of women in El Salvador
today, confirmed Fabio Molina,
head of the Institute of
Statistics of Forensic Medicine
in San Salvador Monday.
In one year 286 women were
killed, an average of 35 women a
month. The DA´s Office informed
there were 84 such homicides in
the first three months of this
year, 12 more than in the same
period of 2005, and pointed out
there is a general rise in
homicide.
La Prensa Grafica (digital
edition) reported there were 370
victims in August alone.
This Central American nation is
confronting a crime wave by
gangs and delinquent maras in
the entire zone.
More than 4,000 members are
behind bars but there are
estimated to be some 5,000 still
at large.
A Central American University
study pointed out that the
country has not known social
peace since the end of the civil
war in 1992, and that most of
the gang members are between 13
and 29 years old, with few
financial resources or chances
to improve their status.
