Surf Boosts Tamarindo Economy
Surf has become the engine of the economy of Tamarindo, in the northwestern Pacific Coast.

The sport has contributed to make the US dollar the currency of the area and has prompted a vast array of real estate business.

According to the Municipality of Santa Cruz, the canton to which Tamarindo belongs, from May through July this year over us$11 million were invested in construction at the beach.

Santa Cruz Mayor Pastor Gomez said that the construction of us$160,000 to us$1-million condos, as well as of stores and other facilities actually has rapidly expanded in the last five years in Tamarindo.

There is a general feeling among the citizens and authorities of Tamarindo that all of this progress has surfing at the root.
