Gasoline Price Drop Approved
No joke, the Autoridad Reguladora de los
Servicios Públicos (Aresep)
approved the price drop
requested by the Refinadora Costarricense de
Petróleo (Recope), in
record time.
The announcement of a price drop
request by Recope was made on
Wednesday, and yesterday,
Regulador, Fernando Herrero,
made the approval announcement.
The approval is for a
reduction of ¢32 colones a
litre, for both super and
regular.
The approval was sent
immediately to the national
printer to be published in the
official government publication,
La Gaceta, which is required to
do within five working days.
Gasoline prices could be changed
at the pump as late as Thursday.
Our bet is on Tuesday at
midnight.
Normally, the Aresep takes up to
15 days to approve a request for
any changes to prices of public
services, like gasoline and then
another five working days for
publication in La Gaceta.
However, given the current high
prices, the government regulator
acted quickly, setting a new
record.
Once the approval is published, a litre of super
gasoline will drop from the
current price of ¢580 to ¢547
and regular will drop from the
current ¢553 to ¢520. Diesel
fuel prices are not affected in
the request and will hold at
¢383 colones per litre.
