Guatemalans Demand Ex President
Evidence
Guatemala´s Association for
Justice and Reconciliation made
public a recourse presented to
the Public Ministry to charge ex
dictator Efrain Rios Montt for
the crime of genocide.
AJR president Antonio Cava
explained to Prensa Latina that
the lawsuit is by communities of
the so-called Ixil Triangle,
Quiche Department, for 20
registered massacres between
March 1982 and August 1983.
Rios Montt, as chief of Military
Junta, Minister of Defense,
President of the Republic and
head of the General Staff of the
Army, planned and ordered his
subordinates to carry out of
great number of massive human
rights abuses against the Mayan
people, pointed out AJR.
In discussing the suit, brought
with CALDH legal consultancy
(Center for Legal Action in
Human Rights), CALDH advisor
Miguel Angel Albizures said, “We
are going to use every legal
resource and that of the
Constitution for the right to
protest and demonstrate to bring
Rios Montt to justice.”
