Nicaraguans Indict Rumsfeld
The specter of Iraq pursues
Tuesday US Defense Secretary
Donald Rumsfeld to Managua,
where the Nicaraguan Social
Movement formally accused him in
front of the Republic's General
Attorney for crimes against
humanity.
According to the
non-governmental organization,
Rumsfeld is responsible of the
death of thousands of Iraqis and
torture of war prisoners that
Washington maintains in the
illegal naval base in Guantanamo,
Cuba.
"We want the Nicaragua
government to act according to
law and urge the General
Attorney to start an
investigation process," one of
the activists told press, after
presenting the accusation.
The Nicaraguan Social Movement
also urged authorities to
fulfill international agreements
signed by the State to prosecute
any people accused of crimes
against humanity who are within
the country.
The members of the organization
said they are threatened by the
presence of the US official in
this country, also accused of
violating the Constitution's
article 25, which ensures the
Nicaraguans' right to security.
Rumsfeld has been in Nicaragua
since Sunday to attend the 7th
Conference of Ministers of
Defense of the Americas taking
place in Managua.
